What We Do

Your SA celebrates diversity on campus and encourages the inclusiveness of all students. We strive to ensure students are treated equitably.

Know your academic rights!

If you experience an incident you disagree with in your overall academic career, there are policies and procedures to protect you.

When do I need to know my student rights?

  • If you’re too sick to write an exam or complete an assignment;
  • Trying to resolve issues about a final grade; and
  • If you are expelled or suspended.

What constitutes “grounds” in an appeal?

  • Prejudice (experience discrimination based on race, sex, sexual orientation and other grounds found in the Ontario Human Rights code);
  • Medical (e.g. if you were sick);
  • Compassionate grounds (e.g. family member dies);
  • Course management (e.g. a professor does not follow the course outline or a professor is personally biased or unfair); and
  • Procedural error (e.g. a procedure is not followed which affected your grade).

Know the procedures!

  • Before making an appeal talk to your professor first;
  • Read the student handbook carefully for appeal deadlines, dropping courses, clarification of definitions and other issues; and
  • If you are appealing, make sure you keep evidence (information or documentation that helps support your argument) in order to provide support for your case.

WHY STUDENT GOVERNMENT?

The College and University experience is extremely rewarding but it can also be overwhelming. If you’re transitioning from highschool or returning after years in the workforce, being a full-time student is no easy task to undertake. No one else understands this better than Your Student Association.

Your SA is here to support you during your academic endeavors and provide you with superior support and advocacy. We offer advice and support on any issue that affects you as a student at Durham College, UOIT and Trent in Oshawa.

Your Student Association is exactly as it sounds – a STUDENT association. We represent you and believe that students are the most integral part of this campus. Your SA is made up of ambitious and committed students working for students.
