Spirit of Competition:
Sports can teach a lot about life, such as setting goals, teamwork and cooperation. These positive values can only be learned when the sport is enjoyable and played fairly. The foundation of the Campus Recreation Program will be based on the fair play principles of integrity, fairness, and respect.
Specifically, these principles are:
- Respect the rules;
- Respect the officials and their decisions;
- Respect your opponent; and
- Maintain self-control at all times.
Campus Recreation Leagues, Tournaments, and Extramural Teams Offered:
The Campus Recreation Program has several different components which include leagues, tournaments, extramural teams, EXPO days, and residence recreation programs.
The following leagues have been organized: Basketball, Ice Hockey, Indoor Soccer, Ju Jitsu, and Volleyball.
The following tournaments have been organized: Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Flag-Football, Outdoor Ball Hockey, Slo-pitch, and Volleyball.
The extramural sports currently offered are basketball hockey, and soccer.
Please contact the Campus Recreation Manager if you are interested in creating a new league or tournament.
Fair Play:
The Student Association’s intramural leagues are designed with the intention of creating a fun and enjoyable campus experience. To keep this campus experience enjoyable, integrity of the game must be evident through the participants, team captains/coaches, and spectators.
Players Must:
- Respect the effort of all opponents;
- Respect teammates and be a team player;
- Respect all players, team captains/coaches, officials, and spectators; and
- Respect the rules of the game.
Captains/Coaches Must:
- Teach respectful play of the game;
- Work with officials to progress the game; be constructive, not destructive;
- Lead by example; and
- Allow for fair play and participation from all teammates.
Spectators Must:
- Encourage players to play respectfully;
- Only communicate positive comments and refrain from the negative; and
- Allow the game to be played by the players with no distractions.
Position Responsibilities:
Critical to the success of the Campus Recreation Program are the Captains, League Convenors, and Minor Officials. The following is a brief description of the responsibilities of each.
CAPTAINS
Every team must designate a Captain. The Captain is responsible for the following:
- Submit the team list to the Tuck Shop before the deadline
- Attend the Captain’s meeting or send a designate
- Ensure the eligibility of team mates
- Inform the team of the eligibility requirements, the acceptable conduct required, and the rules of the league or tournament
- Relay any schedule changes to team mates
- Reiterate the mission and goals of the Student Association Campus Recreation Program
LEAGUE CONVENOR
- Attend all meetings (Captains, Minor Officials, etc.)
- Be familiar with the Campus Recreation Operations Manual and the guidelines set out within it
- Be knowledgeable in the sport you are convening as you may have to double as a Minor Official
- Assist the Campus Recreation Manager with the administration of the league
- Assist in the recruitment of Minor Officials
- Attend all league games, playoff games, and tournaments as it pertains to the league you are convening
- Obtain from the Campus Recreation Manager all necessary items prior to the start of the activity (score sheets, official payment, updates, etc.). Collect from the Minor Officials all necessary game information immediately after the activity finishes
- Report all statistics to the Campus Recreation Manager in the template provided no later than one day after the completion of the activity
- During game night record and report any disturbances within the league to the Campus Recreation Manager the following day
- During game night, complete an ID check of all participants
- During game night, take pictures of the activity for marketing purposes
- At the end of each night, ensure Campus Recreation office and storage room is organized and that all equipment is accounted for
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures
MINOR OFFICIALS
The Minor Official is responsible for the following:
- Attend all official’s clinics and meetings
- Be at the game site ten minutes prior to the game to assess the playing area, fix any unsafe conditions, report them on the game sheet, and set-up equipment
- Ensure the safe, proper running of the activity, and the conduct of its participants
- Make all calls confidently and consistently
- Ensure game sheets are filled out properly and completely and handed to the League Convenor at the end of the game
- Be familiar with all emergency procedures
- Assist in the set-up/tear-down of equipment
- Wear designated uniform
